| Description: Union
Church, was organized in May 1860. It is believed the name "Union" came
from the town, Union Alabama, home of the family of John Alexander
Baskin. Rev. D. C. Henderson was the first pastor.
During
the mid-1860's and 70's Union Church was instrumental in
founding three other Presbyterian churches in the delta lands of
Richland and Franklin parishes: Alto, Archibald and Baskin.
In
1871 Union Church met at a place on Little Creek, Richland Parish,
perhaps in the home of one of its elders: A.B. Cooper or Robert
Neill. A building was erected near the church's present
location. In August 1942 the last gathering was held in the
original structure, and soon after the present building was
constructed. In 2005 members added a fellowship area and restroom.
Union
Church is one of the congregations that makes up New
Covenant Parish - five churches, maintaining their separate
identities, with a deep and abiding commitment to the witnesss of Jesus
Christ.
