| Description: The
sign reads "Baskin United Methodist and Presbyterian Church", two
congregations meeting in one building since 1921.
During
the winter of 1920-21
Rev. H. L. Walton of Rayville preached to the small flock of
Presbyterians at Baskin, LA, holding services from time to time in the
Baptist Church. In the summer of 1921 an evangelistic meeting was
held by Rev. B. C. Bell and Rev. H. L. Walton and lasted ten
days. The Methodists bought the property, and then sold half to the
Presbyterians. Through donations of both money and labor by September
of
1921 a church building had been erected. For a few months boxes,
planks and a few chairs were used as seats until proper pews could be
secured.
On
December 4, 1921, with 34 charter members,The Presbyterian Church of
Baskin, was organized.
The
Baskin Church is one of the congregations that makes up New
Covenant Parish - five churches, maintaining their separate
identities, with a deep and abiding commitment to the witnesss of Jesus
Christ.
